Visual Rehabilitation in Traumatic Brain Injury

Visual Rehabilitation in
Traumatic Brain Injury

Vision & TBI

Workshops held on Wednesdays, 7 – 9 pm

See Calendar below for upcoming dates!

Traumatic injury to the brain often produces dramatic changes in vision and perception.  This is true for patients who have had one or multiple concussions, acquired brain injury (such as a stroke or space occupying lesion), as well as for more severe traumatic incidents.

A few commonly reported symptoms include:

    • Double vision
    • Disorientation
    • Visual & spatial misperceptions
    • Loss of place reading, poor concentration or reduced comprehension
    • Impaired balance
    • Dizziness
    • Motion sickness
    • Loss of visual fields, and/or reduced use of peripheral vision
    • Distorted perception of surroundings
    • Impaired face recognition

Many patients who have sustained head trauma find that persistent visual disturbances they experience after their injury are a primary obstacle to their recovery and return to active life.

Visual rehabilitation has proven to be a useful adjunct to physical and other therapies for TBI patients.

What can be done to restore maximum visual function?
~~~
In this lively, hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to assess, test for and distinguish visual conditions that are often triggered by brain trauma.
You'll learn basic tests that reveal vision problems, have the opportunity to ask questions, and understand the role of visual rehabilitation in restoring patients to their best possible level of performance.
One of Dr. Slotnick's patients shares her experience with visual rehabilitation following brain injury:
